If you have been arrested for driving under a suspended license, you need an aggressive and detail-oriented attorney who understands the charges and will provide you with a strong defense. Manning & Manning, LLC has extensive experience representing people who have been arrested on the highways in and around the west side of Cleveland, including I-90, Route 2, I-80, I-480 and the Ohio Turnpike.
Statewide, more than 960,000 drivers had their licenses revoked in Ohio in 2011, and many had multiple suspensions, putting the number of actual suspensions over 2.7 million, according to the Bureau of Motor Vehicle records.
Some of the reasons that people get their driver licenses suspended in Ohio include:
- Accumulation of 12 or more points on their driving record within a two-year period
- Driving without insurance
- Failing to pay child support
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI)
- Having a weapon on school property
Under Ohio law, driving under a suspended license is classified as a first degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $1000.00 fine and/or six months in jail. Ohio law also allows that in addition to the other penalties, a vehicle registered in the offender's name can be immobilized and that vehicle's license plates impounded for 30 days, provided the vehicle was involved in the offense. Subsequent offenses for driving on a suspended license carry more severe penalties, including potential criminal forfeiture of the offender's vehicle.
